  1. The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them: but transgressors shall be taken in their own naughtiness.

  2. ¶ When a wicked man dieth, his expectation shall perish: and the hope of unjust men perisheth.

  3. ¶ The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward.

  4. ¶ As righteousness tendeth to life: so he that pursueth evil pursueth it to his own death.

  5. ¶ He that diligently seeketh good procureth favour: but he that seeketh mischief, it shall come unto him.

  6. ¶ He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool shall be servant to the wise of heart.

  7. ¶ The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips: but the just shall come out of trouble.

  8. ¶ A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompence of a man's hands shall be rendered unto him.

  9. ¶ There shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief.

  10. ¶ The righteous is more excellent than his neighbour: but the way of the wicked seduceth them.

  11. ¶ A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.

  12. ¶ Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.

  13. ¶ Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.

  14. ¶ He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail.

  15. ¶ As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place.

  16. ¶ The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.

  17. ¶ In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare: but the righteous doth sing and rejoice.

  18. Such is the way of an adulterous woman; she eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I have done no wickedness.

  19. ¶ The shew of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil unto themselves.

  20. Woe unto the wicked! it shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him.

  21. For wickedness burneth as the fire: it shall devour the briers and thorns, and shall kindle in the thickets of the forest, and they shall mount up like the lifting up of smoke.

  22. Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities.

  23. Behold, all ye that kindle a fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks: walk in the light of your fire, and in the sparks that ye have kindled. This shall ye have of mine hand; ye shall lie down in sorrow.

  24. But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt.

  25. There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.
