  1. But Paul said unto them, They have beaten us openly uncondemned, being Romans, and have cast us into prison; and now do they thrust us out privily? nay verily; but let them come themselves and fetch us out.

  2. And the serjeants told these words unto the magistrates: and they feared, when they heard that they were Romans.

  3. And they came and besought them, and brought them out, and desired them to depart out of the city.

  4. And they went out of the prison, and entered into the house of Lydia: and when they had seen the brethren, they comforted them, and departed.

  5. ¶ And after the uproar was ceased, Paul called unto him the disciples, and embraced them, and departed for to go into Macedonia.

  6. And when he had gone over those parts, and had given them much exhortation, he came into Greece,

  7. And there abode three months. And when the Jews laid wait for him, as he was about to sail into Syria, he purposed to return through Macedonia.

  8. And there accompanied him into Asia Sopater of Berea; and of the Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus; and Gaius of Derbe, and Timotheus; and of Asia, Tychicus and Trophimus.

  9. These going before tarried for us at Troas.

  10. And we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavened bread, and came unto them to Troas in five days; where we abode seven days.

  11. ¶ Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:

  12. Yet I supposed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, and companion in labour, and fellowsoldier, but your messenger, and he that ministered to my wants.

  13. ¶ But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity.

  14. Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.

  15. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.

  16. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

  17. Notwithstanding ye have well done, that ye did communicate with my affliction.

  18. Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only.

  19. For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity.

  20. Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account.

  21. But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God.

  22. But even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully entreated, as ye know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the gospel of God with much contention.
