  1. Our fathers have sinned, and are not; and we have borne their iniquities.

  2. ¶ Behold, every one that useth proverbs shall use this proverb against thee, saying, As is the mother, so is her daughter.

  8. He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

  9. ¶ Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them.

  10. But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.

  11. And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.

  12. And she went forth, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist.

  13. If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?

  14. Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?

  15. If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

  16. So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum.

  17. The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die.

  18. Behold, the third time I am ready to come to you; and I will not be burdensome to you: for I seek not yours, but you: for the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children.

  19. And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

  20. Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.

  21. As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children,

  22. One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;

  23. (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)

  24. Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

  25. But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
