  1. ¶ In those days also saw I Jews that had married wives of Ashdod, of Ammon, and of Moab:

  2. And their children spake half in the speech of Ashdod, and could not speak in the Jews' language, but according to the language of each people.

  3. And I contended with them, and cursed them, and smote certain of them, and plucked off their hair, and made them swear by God, saying, Ye shall not give your daughters unto their sons, nor take their daughters unto your sons, or for yourselves.

  4. Did not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? yet among many nations was there no king like him, who was beloved of his God, and God made him king over all Israel: nevertheless even him did outlandish women cause to sin.

  5. Shall we then hearken unto you to do all this great evil, to transgress against our God in marrying strange wives?

  6. ¶ Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

  7. ¶ Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity; for the LORD hath heard the voice of my weeping.

  8. In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoureth them that fear the LORD. He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not.

  9. I have not sat with vain persons, neither will I go in with dissemblers.

  10. I have hated the congregation of evil doers; and will not sit with the wicked.

  11. I have hated them that regard lying vanities: but I trust in the LORD.

  12. When thou sawest a thief, then thou consentedst with him, and hast been partaker with adulterers.

  13. My soul is among lions: and I lie even among them that are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.

  14. A froward heart shall depart from me: I will not know a wicked person.

  15. Whoso privily slandereth his neighbour, him will I cut off: him that hath an high look and a proud heart will not I suffer.

  16. Mine eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me: he that walketh in a perfect way, he shall serve me.

  17. He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house: he that telleth lies shall not tarry in my sight.

  18. Thus they provoked him to anger with their inventions: and the plague brake in upon them.

  19. And they served their idols: which were a snare unto them.

  20. Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils,

  21. And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood.

  22. Therefore was the wrath of the LORD kindled against his people, insomuch that he abhorred his own inheritance.

  23. And he gave them into the hand of the heathen; and they that hated them ruled over them.

  24. Their enemies also oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their hand.

  25. ¶ Depart from me, ye evildoers: for I will keep the commandments of my God.
