  1. And the King stoode before the altar of the Lord, in the presence of all the Congregation of Israel, and stretched out his hands,

  2. (For Salomon had made a brasen skaffold and set it in the middes of the court, of fiue cubites long, and fiue cubites broade, and three cubites of height, and vpon it he stoode, and kneeled downe vpon his knees before all the Congregation of Israel, and stretched out his hands toward heauen)

  3. And sayd, O Lord God of Israel, there is no God like thee in heauen nor in earth, which keepest couenant, and mercie vnto thy seruants, that walke before thee with all their heart.

  6. The Ethiopians and the Lubims, were they not a great hoste with charets and horsemen, exceeding many? yet because thou diddest rest vpon the Lord, he deliuered them into thine had.

  7. For the eyes of the Lord beholde all the earth to shewe him selfe strong with them that are of perfite heart towarde him: thou hast then done foolishly in this: therefore from henceforth thou shalt haue warres.

  8. Then Asa was wroth with the Seer, and put him into a prison: for he was displeased with him, because of this thing. And Asa oppressed certaine of the people at the same time.

  9. Thou art, O Lord, the God, that hast chosen Abram, and broughtest him out of Vr in Caldea, and madest his name Abraham,

  10. And foundest his heart faithful before thee, and madest a couenant with him, to giue vnto his seede the lande of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, and Perizzites, and Iebusites, and Girgashites, and hast performed thy wordes, because thou art iust.

  11. But when they had rest, they returned to doe euill before thee: therefore leftest thou them in the hande of their enemies, so that they had the dominion ouer them, yet when they conuerted and cryed vnto thee, thou heardest them from heauen, and deliueredst them according to thy great mercies many times,

  12. And protestedst among them that thou mightest bring them againe vnto thy Lawe: but they behaued them selues proudely, and hearkened not vnto thy commandements, but sinned against thy iudgements ( which a man should doe and liue in them) and pulled away the shoulder, and were stiffenecked, and woulde not heare.

  13. Yet thou diddest forbeare them many yeeres, and protestedst among them by thy Spirite, euen by the hande of thy Prophets, but they woulde not heare: therefore gauest thou them into the hande of the people of the lands.

  14. Yet for thy great mercies thou hast not consumed them, neither forsaken them: for thou art a gracious and mercifull God.

  15. But I would inquire at God, and turne my talke vnto God:

  16. Which doeth great things and vnsearchable, and marueilous things without nomber.

  17. He giueth raine vpon the earth, and powreth water vpon the streetes,

  18. And setteth vp on hie them that be lowe, that the sorowfull may be exalted to saluation.

  19. He scattereth the deuices of the craftie: so that their handes can not accomplish that which they doe enterprise.

  20. He taketh the wise in their craftinesse, and the counsel of the wicked is made foolish.

  21. They meete with darkenesse in the day time, and grope at noone day, as in the night.

  22. But he saueth the poore from the sword, from their mouth, and from the hande of the violent man,

  23. So that the poore hath his hope, but iniquitie shall stop her mouth.

  24. Beholde, blessed is the man whome God correcteth: therefore refuse not thou the chastising of the Almightie.

  25. For he maketh the wound, and bindeth it vp: he smiteth, and his handes make whole.
