  1. Then spake Ioshua to the Lord, in the day when the Lord gaue the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he sayd in the sight of Israel, Sunne, stay thou in Gibeon, and thou moone, in the valley of Aialon.

  2. And the Sunne abode, and the moone stood still, vntill the people auenged themselues vpon their enemies: (Is not this written in the booke of Iasher?) so the Sunne abode in the middes of the heauen, and hasted not to goe downe for a whole day.

  3. And there was no day like that before it, nor after it, that the Lord heard the voyce of a man: for the Lord fought for Israel.

  4. Hee remooueth the earth out of her place, that the pillars thereof doe shake.

  5. He commandeth the sunne, and it riseth not: hee closeth vp the starres, as vnder a signet.

  6. Hee himselfe alone spreadeth out the heauens, and walketh vpon the height of the sea.

  7. He maketh the starres Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades, and the climates of the South.

  8. Canst thou restraine the sweete influences of the Pleiades? or loose the bandes of Orion?

  9. Canst thou bring foorth Mazzaroth in their time? canst thou also guide Arcturus with his sonnes?

  10. Knowest thou the course of heauen, or canst thou set the rule thereof in the earth?

  11. To him that excelleth. A Psalme of Dauid. The heauens declare the glory of God, and the firmament sheweth ye worke of his hands.

  12. Day vnto day vttereth the same, and night vnto night teacheth knowledge.

  13. There is no speach nor language, where their voyce is not heard.

  14. Their line is gone forth through all the earth, and their words into the endes of the world: in them hath he set a tabernacle for the sunne.

  15. Which commeth forth as a bridegrome out of his chamber, and reioyceth like a mightie man to runne his race.

  16. His going out is from the ende of the heauen, and his compasse is vnto the endes of ye same, and none is hid from the heate thereof.

  17. Which by his wisedome made the heauens: for his mercie endureth for euer:

  18. Which hath stretched out the earth vpon the waters: for his mercie endureth for euer:

  19. Which made great lightes: for his mercie endureth for euer:

  20. As the sunne to rule the day: for his mercie endureth for euer:

  21. The moone and the starres to gouerne the night: for his mercie endureth for euer:

  22. Thus saith the Lord, which giueth the sunne for a light to the day, and the courses of the moone and of the starres for a light to the night, which breaketh the sea, when the waues thereof roare: his Name is the Lord of hostes.

  23. If these ordinances depart out of my sight, saith the Lord, then shall the seede of Israel cease from being a nation before me, for euer.

  24. Thus saith the Lord, If the heauens can be measured, or the fundations of the earth be searched out beneath, then wil I cast off all the seed of Israel, for all that they haue done, saith the Lord.

  25. And when I shall put thee out, I will couer the heauen, and make the starres thereof darke: I will couer the sunne with a cloude, and the moone shall not giue her light.
