  1. But the wise took oil in their vessels with the lamps.

  2. And the bridegroom tarrying, they all slumbered and slept.

  3. And at midnight there was a cry made: Behold the bridegroom cometh. Go ye forth to meet him.

  4. Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps.

  5. And the foolish said to the wise: Give us of your oil, for our lamps are gone out.

  6. The wise answered, saying: Lest perhaps there be not enough for us and for you, go ye rather to them that sell and buy for yourselves.

  9. But he answering said: Amen I say to you, I know you not.

  10. Watch ye therefore, because you know not the day nor the hour.

  11. But he said to another: Follow me. And he said: Lord, suffer me first to go and to bury my father.

  12. And Jesus said to him: Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.

  13. And another said: I will follow thee, Lord; but let me first take my leave of them that are at my house.

  14. Jesus said to him: No man putting his hand to the plough and looking back is fit for the kingdom of God.

  15. But when the master of the house shall be gone in and shall shut the door, you shall begin to stand without; and knock at the door, saying: Lord, open to us. And he answering, shall say to you: I know you not, whence you are.

  16. And as he treated of justice and chastity and of the judgment to come, Felix, being terrified, answered: For this time, go thy way: but when I have a convenient time, I will send for thee.

  17. For he saith: In an accepted time have I heard thee and in the day of salvation have I helped thee. Behold, now is the acceptable time: behold, now is the day of salvation.

  18. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord shall so come as a thief in the night.

  19. For when they shall say: Peace and security; then shall sudden destruction come upon them, as the pains upon her that is with child, and they shall not escape.

  21. Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the desert,

  22. Where your fathers tempted me, proved and saw my works,

  23. Forty years: for which cause I was offended with this generation, and I said: They always err in heart. And they have not known my ways.

  24. As I have sworn in my wrath: If they shall enter into my rest.

  25. Take heed, brethren, lest perhaps there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, to depart from the living God.
