  1. And the number of them that were slain was fourteen thousand and seven hundred men, besides them that had perished in the sedition of Core.

  2. And Aaron returned to Moses to the door of the tabernacle of the covenant after the destruction was over.

  7. Who are thy people and thy inheritance, whom thou hast brought out by thy great strength, and in thy stretched out arm.

  8. And Samuel said: Gather all Israel to Masphath, that I may pray to the Lord for you.

  9. And they gathered together to Masphath, and they drew water, and poured it out before the Lord, and they fasted on that day, and they said there: We have sinned against the Lord. And Samuel judged the children of Israel in Masphath.

  10. And the Philistines heard that the children of Israel were gathered together to Masphath, and the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the children of Israel heard this, they were afraid of the Philistines.

  11. And they said to Samuel: Cease not to cry to the Lord our God for us, that he may save us out of the hand of the Philistines.

  12. And Saul said to Samuel: I have sinned, because I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord, and thy words, fearing the people, and obeying their voice.

  13. But now bear, I beseech thee, my sin, and return with me, that I may adore the Lord.

  14. And Samuel said to Saul: I will not return with thee, because thou hath rejected the word of the Lord, and the Lord hath rejected thee from being king over Israel.

  15. For I shall not answer a man that is like myself: nor one that may be heard with me equally in judgment.

  16. There is none that may be able to reprove both, and to put his hand between both.

  17. Take unto you therefore seven oxen and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer for yourselves a holocaust, and my servant Job shall pray for you: his face I will accept, that folly be not imputed to you: for you have not spoken right things before me, as my servant Job hath.

  18. So Eliphaz the Themanite, and Baldad the Suhite, and Sophar the Naamathite went, and did as the Lord had spoken to them, and the Lord accepted the face of Job.

  19. The Lord also was turned at the penance of Job, when he prayed for his friends. And the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.

  20. Upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, I have appointed watchmen all the day, and all the night, they shall never hold their peace. You that are mindful of the Lord, hold not your peace,

  21. And give him no silence till he establish, and till he make Jerusalem a praise in the earth.

  22. Then all the captains of the warriors, and Johanan the son of Caree, and Jezonias, the son of Osaias, and the rest of the people from the least to the greatest came near:

  23. And they said to Jeremiah the prophet: Let our supplication fall before thee: and pray thou for us to the Lord thy God for all this remnant, for we are left but a few of many, as thy eyes do behold us.

  24. And let the Lord thy God shew us the way by which we may walk, and the thing that we must do.

  25. And Jeremiah the prophet said to them: I have heard you: behold I will pray to the Lord your God according to your words: and whatsoever thing he shall answer me, I will declare it to you: and I will hide nothing from you.
