  1. And he shall make no account of the God of his fathers: and he shall follow the lust of women, and he shall not regard any gods: for he shall rise up against all things.

  2. And now hear thou the word of the Lord: Thou sayest, thou shalt not prophesy against Israel, and thou shalt not drop thy word upon the house of the idol.

  3. Therefore thus saith the Lord: Thy wife shall play the harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be measured by a line: and thou shalt die in a polluted land, and Israel shall go into captivity out of their land.

  4. Your words have been unsufferable to me, saith the Lord.

  5. And you have said: What have we spoken against thee? You have said: He laboureth in vain that serveth God, and what profit is it that we have kept his ordinances, and that we have walked sorrowful before the Lord of hosts?

  6. But he that had received the one talent, came and said: Lord, I know that thou art a hard man; thou reapest where thou hast not sown and gatherest where thou hast not strewed.

  7. And being afraid, I went and hid thy talent in the earth. Behold here thou hast that which is thine.

  8. And his lord answering, said to him: Wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sow not and gather where I have not strewed.

  9. Thou oughtest therefore to have committed my money to the bankers: and at my coming I should have received my own with usury.

  10. And they that passed by blasphemed him, wagging their heads,

  11. And saying: Vah, thou that destroyest the temple of God and in three days dost rebuild it: save thy own self. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.

  12. In like manner also the chief priests, with the scribes and ancients, mocking said:

  13. He saved others: himself he cannot save. If he be the king of Israel, let him now come down from the cross: and we will believe him.

  14. He trusted in God: let him now deliver him if he will have him. For he said: I am the Son of God.

  15. And the selfsame thing the thieves also that were crucified with him reproached him with.

  16. O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it: Why hast thou made me thus?

  17. Or hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump, to make one vessel unto honour and another unto dishonour?

  18. Knowing this first: That in the last days there shall come deceitful scoffers, walking after their own lusts,

  19. Saying: Where is his promise or his coming? For since the time that the fathers slept, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

  20. For this they are wilfully ignorant of: That the heavens were before, and the earth out of water and through water, consisting by the word of God:

  21. Who told you that in the last time there should come mockers, walking according to their own desires in ungodlinesses.

  22. These are they who separate themselves, sensual men, having not the Spirit.
