  14. But they held their peace, for in the way they had disputed among themselves, which of them should be the greatest.

  15. And sitting down, he called the twelve and saith to them: If any man desire to be first, he shall be the last of all and be minister of all.

  16. And taking a child, he set him in the midst of them. Whom when he had embraced, he saith to them:

  17. Whosoever shall receive one such child as this in my name receiveth me. And whosoever shall receive me receiveth not me but him that sent me.

  18. John answered him, saying: Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, who followeth not us: and we forbade him.

  19. But it is not so among you: but whosoever will be greater shall be your minister.

  20. And whosoever will be first among you shall be the servant of all.

  21. And there entered a thought into them, which of them should be greater.

  22. But Jesus seeing the thoughts of their hearts, took a child and set him by him,

  23. And said to them: Whosoever shall receive this child in my name receiveth me; and whosoever shall receive me receiveth him that sent me. For he that is the lesser among you all, he is the greater.

  24. But when thou art invited, go, sit down in the lowest place; that when he who invited thee cometh, he may say to thee: Friend, go up higher. Then shalt thou have glory before them that sit at table with thee.

  25. Because every one that exalteth himself shall be humbled: and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
