  1. Jesus said to him: This day is salvation come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham.

  2. They answered him: We are the seed of Abraham: and we have never been slaves to any man. How sayest thou: You shall be free?

  11. Art thou greater than our father Abraham who is dead? And the prophets are dead. Whom dost thou make thyself?

  12. Jesus answered: If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father that glorifieth me, of whom you say that he is your God.

  13. And you have not known him: but I know him. And if I shall say that I know him not, I shall be like to you, a liar. But I do know him and do keep his word.

  14. Abraham your father rejoiced that he might see my day: he saw it and was glad.

  15. The Jews therefore said to him: Thou art not yet fifty years old. And hast thou seen Abraham?

  16. Jesus said to them: Amen, amen, I say to you, before Abraham was made, I AM.

  17. They took up stones therefore to cast at him. But Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple.

  18. Who said: Ye men, brethren and fathers, hear. The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charan.

  19. And said to him: Go forth out of thy country and from thy kindred: and come into the land which I shall shew thee.

  20. Then he went out of the land of the Chaldeans and dwelt in Charan. And from thence, after his father was dead, he removed him into this land, wherein you now dwell.

  21. What shall we say then that Abraham hath found, who is our father according to the flesh?

  22. For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory, but not before God.

  23. For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God: and it was reputed to him unto justice.

  24. Now to him that worketh, the reward is not reckoned according to grace but according to debt.

  25. But to him that worketh not, yet believeth in him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is reputed to justice, according to the purpose of the grace of God.
