  1. When their liquor is gone, they turn to prostitution; their rulers dearly love disgrace.

  10. You hate good and love evil. You tear the skin from my people and strip the flesh from their bones.

  11. Then they will cry out to the LORD, but He will not answer them. At that time He will hide His face from them because of the evil they have done.

  12. The godly man has perished from the earth; there is no one upright among men. They all lie in wait for blood; they hunt one another with a net.

  13. Both hands are skilled at evil; the prince and the judge demand a bribe. When the powerful utters his evil desire, they all conspire together.

  14. The best of them is like a brier; the most upright is sharper than a hedge of thorns. The day for your watchmen has come, the day of your visitation. Now is the time of their confusion.

  15. Why do You make me see iniquity? Why do You tolerate wrongdoing? Destruction and violence are before me. Strife is ongoing, and conflict abounds.

  16. Therefore the law is paralyzed, and justice never goes forth. For the wicked hem in the righteous, so that justice is perverted.

  17. Your eyes are too pure to look upon evil, and You cannot tolerate wrongdoing. So why do You tolerate the faithless? Why are You silent while the wicked swallow up those more righteous than themselves?

  18. You have made men like the fish of the sea, like creeping things that have no ruler.

  19. The foe pulls all of them up with a hook; he catches them in his dragnet, and gathers them in his fishing net; so he rejoices gladly.

  20. Therefore he sacrifices to his dragnet and burns incense to his fishing net, for by these things his portion is sumptuous and his food is rich.

  21. Will he, therefore, empty his net and continue to slay nations without mercy?

  22. Gather yourselves, gather together, O shameful nation,

  23. before the decree takes effect and the day passes like chaff, before the burning anger of the LORD comes upon you, before the Day of the LORD’s anger comes upon you.

  24. The LORD within her is righteous; He does no wrong. He applies His justice morning by morning; He does not fail at dawn, yet the unjust know no shame.

  25. I said, ‘Surely you will fear Me and accept correction.’ Then her dwelling place would not be cut off despite all for which I punished her. But they rose early to corrupt all their deeds.
