  1. Woe to you who add house to house and join field to field until no place is left and you live alone in the land.

  2. Therefore the anger of the LORD burns against His people; His hand is raised against them to strike them down. The mountains quake, and the corpses lay like refuse in the streets. Despite all this, His anger is not turned away; His hand is still upraised.

  3. He lifts a banner for the distant nations and whistles for those at the ends of the earth. Behold—how speedily and swiftly they come!

  8. Then I asked: “How long, O Lord?” And He replied: “Until the cities lie ruined and without inhabitant, until the houses are left unoccupied and the land is desolate and ravaged,

  9. until the LORD has driven men far away and the land is utterly forsaken.

  10. For every trampling boot of battle and every garment rolled in blood will be burned as fuel for the fire.

  11. The Lord has sent a message against Jacob, and it has fallen upon Israel.

  12. All the people will know it— Ephraim and the dwellers of Samaria. With pride and arrogance of heart they will say:

  13. “The bricks have fallen, but we will rebuild with finished stone; the sycamores have been felled, but we will replace them with cedars.”

  14. The LORD has raised up the foes of Rezin against him and joined his enemies together.

  15. Aram from the east and Philistia from the west have devoured Israel with open mouths. Despite all this, His anger is not turned away; His hand is still upraised.

  16. By the wrath of the LORD of Hosts the land is scorched, and the people are fuel for the fire. No man even spares his brother.

  17. They carve out what is on the right, but they are still hungry; they eat what is on the left, but they are still not satisfied. Each one devours the flesh of his own offspring.

  18. Manasseh devours Ephraim, and Ephraim Manasseh; together they turn against Judah. Despite all this, His anger is not turned away; His hand is still upraised.

  19. I have commanded My sanctified ones; I have even summoned My warriors to execute My wrath and exult in My triumph.

  20. Listen, a tumult on the mountains, like that of a great multitude! Listen, an uproar among the kingdoms, like nations gathered together! The LORD of Hosts is mobilizing an army for war.

  21. Behold, the Day of the LORD is coming— cruel, with fury and burning anger— to make the earth a desolation and to destroy the sinners within it.

  22. Whoever is caught will be stabbed, and whoever is captured will die by the sword.

  23. Their infants will be dashed to pieces before their eyes, their houses will be looted, and their wives will be ravished.

  24. But you are cast out of your grave like a rejected branch, covered by those slain with the sword, and dumped into a rocky pit like a carcass trampled underfoot.

  25. This is the burden against Moab: Ar in Moab is ruined, destroyed in a night! Kir in Moab is devastated, destroyed in a night!
