  1. The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death, a light has dawned.

  2. Though your people, O Israel, be like the sand of the sea, only a remnant will return. Destruction has been decreed, overflowing with righteousness.

  9. Indeed, with mocking lips and foreign tongues, He will speak to this people

  10. to whom He has said: “This is the place of rest, let the weary rest; this is the place of repose.” But they would not listen.

  11. So this is what the Lord GOD says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; the one who believes will never be shaken.

  12. For the LORD has poured out on you a spirit of deep sleep. He has shut your eyes, O prophets; He has covered your heads, O seers.

  13. Therefore the Lord said: “These people draw near to Me with their mouths and honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me. Their worship of Me is but rules taught by men.

  14. Therefore I will again confound these people with wonder upon wonder. The wisdom of the wise will vanish, and the intelligence of the intelligent will be hidden.”

  15. A voice of one calling: “Prepare the way for the LORD in the wilderness; make a straight highway for our God in the desert.

  16. Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill made low; the uneven ground will become smooth, and the rugged land a plain.

  17. And the glory of the LORD will be revealed, and all humanity together will see it. For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.”

  18. A voice says, “Cry out!” And I asked, “What should I cry out?” “All flesh is like grass, and all its glory like the flowers of the field.

  19. The grass withers and the flowers fall when the breath of the LORD blows on them; indeed, the people are grass.

  20. The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever.”

  21. Who has directed the Spirit of the LORD, or informed Him as His counselor?

  22. “Here is My Servant, whom I uphold, My Chosen One, in whom My soul delights. I will put My Spirit on Him, and He will bring justice to the nations.

  23. He will not cry out or raise His voice, nor make His voice heard in the streets.

  24. A bruised reed He will not break and a smoldering wick He will not extinguish; He will faithfully bring forth justice.

  25. He will not grow weak or discouraged before He has established justice on the earth. In His law the islands will put their hope.”
