  1. The wife hath not power over her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power over his own body, but the wife.

  2. Defraud ye not one the other, except it be by consent for a season, that ye may give yourselves unto prayer, and may be together again, that Satan tempt you not because of your incontinency.

  3. But unto the married I give charge, yea not I, but the Lord, That the wife depart not from her husband

  9. Wives, be in subjection unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

  10. But as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives also be to their husbands in everything.

  11. Nevertheless do ye also severally love each one his own wife even as himself; and let the wife see that she fear her husband.

  12. In like manner, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefastness and sobriety; not with braided hair, and gold or pearls or costly raiment;

  13. but (which becometh women professing godliness) through good works.

  14. Women in like manner must be grave, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things.

  15. well reported of for good works; if she hath brought up children, if she hath used hospitality to strangers, if she hath washed the saints’ feet, if she hath relieved the afflicted, if she hath diligently followed every good work.

  16. that they may train the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,

  17. to be sober-minded, chaste, workers at home, kind, being in subjection to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed:

  18. In like manner, ye wives, bein subjection to your own husbands; that, even if any obey not the word, they may without the word be gained by the behavior of their wives;

  19. beholding your chaste behaviorcoupledwith fear.

  20. Whoseadorninglet it not be the outward adorning of braiding the hair, and of wearing jewels of gold, or of putting on apparel;

  21. but let it be the hidden man of the heart, in the incorruptible apparel of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

  22. For after this manner aforetime the holy women also, who hoped in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection to their own husbands:

  23. as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose children ye now are, if ye do well, and are not put in fear by any terror.
