  1. Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the likeness of Adam’s transgression, who is a figure of him that was to come.

  2. But not as the trespass, so also is the free gift. For if by the trespass of the one the many died, much more did the grace of God, and the gift by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, abound unto the many.

  3. And not as through one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment came of one unto condemnation, but the free gift came of many trespasses unto justification.

  4. For if, by the trespass of the one, death reigned through the one; much more shall they that receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one, even Jesus Christ.

  5. What fruit then had ye at that time in the things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.

  6. For the wages of sin is death; but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  7. Well; by their unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by thy faith. Be not highminded, but fear:

  8. Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.

  9. Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.

  10. Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.

  11. Neither let us make trial of the Lord, as some of them made trial, and perished by the serpents.

  12. Neither murmur ye, as some of them murmured, and perished by the destroyer.

  13. Now these things happened unto them by way of example; and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages are come.

  14. For we must all be made manifest before the judgment-seat of Christ; that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

  15. For he that soweth unto his own flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth unto the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap eternal life.

  16. Let no man deceive you with empty words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the sons of disobedience.

  17. When they are saying, Peace and safety, then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall in no wise escape.

  18. if so be that it is a righteous thing with God to recompense affliction to them that afflict you,

  19. rendering vengeance to them that know not God, and to them that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus:

  20. who shall suffer punishment, even eternal destruction from the face of the Lord and from the glory of his might,

  21. For if the word spoken through angels proved stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense of reward;

  22. And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that were disobedient?

  23. And we see that they were not able to enter in because of unbelief.

  24. For indeed we have had good tidings preached unto us, even as also they: but the word of hearing did not profit them, because it was not united by faith with them that heard.

  25. the Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptation, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment unto the day of judgment;
