  4. and the Arvadite, and the Zemarite, and the Hamathite: and afterward were the families of the Canaanite spread abroad.

  5. Now Jehovah said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto the land that I will show thee:

  6. and I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and be thou a blessing:

  7. and I will bless them that bless thee, and him that curseth thee will I curse: and in thee shall all the families of the earth be blessed.

  8. So Abram went, as Jehovah had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.

  9. And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother’s son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.

  10. And Jehovah said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art, northward and southward and eastward and westward:

  11. for all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.

  12. And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then may thy seed also be numbered.

  13. Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for unto thee will I give it.

  14. When thou art come into the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.

  15. There shall not be found with thee any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, one that useth divination, one that practiseth augury, or an enchanter, or a sorcerer,

  16. or a charmer, or a consulter with a familiar spirit, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

  17. and she said unto the men, I know that Jehovah hath given you the land, and that the fear of you is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land melt away before you.

  18. For we have heard how Jehovah dried up the water of the Red Sea before you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were beyond the Jordan, unto Sihon and to Og, whom ye utterly destroyed.

  19. And as soon as we had heard it, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more spirit in any man, because of you: for Jehovah your God, he is God in heaven above, and on earth beneath.

  20. And it came to pass after the death of Joshua, that the children of Israel asked of Jehovah, saying, Who shall go up for us first against the Canaanites, to fight against them?

  21. And Jehovah said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.

  22. And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.

  23. And Judah went up; and Jehovah delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they smote of them in Bezek ten thousand men.

  24. And they found Adoni-bezek in Bezek; and they fought against him, and they smote the Canaanites and the Perizzites.

  25. But Adoni-bezek fled; and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.
