  1. But speak thou the things which befit the sound doctrine:

  2. that aged men be temperate, grave, sober-minded, sound in faith, in love, in patience:

  3. Exhort servants to be in subjection to their own masters, and to be well-pleasing to them in all things; not gainsaying;

  4. that ye be not sluggish, but imitators of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

  5. And thus, having patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

  6. For ye have need of patience, that, having done the will of God, ye may receive the promise.

  7. Therefore let us also, seeing we are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

  8. knowing that the proving of your faith worketh patience.

  9. And let patience have its perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, lacking in nothing.

  10. Ye knowthis, my beloved brethren. But let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

  11. Be patient therefore, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient over it, until it receive the early and latter rain.

  12. Be ye also patient; establish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord is at hand.

  13. Take, brethren, for an example of suffering and of patience, the prophets who spake in the name of the Lord.

  14. Behold, we call them blessed that endured: ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord, how that the Lord is full of pity, and merciful.

  15. For this is acceptable, if for conscience toward God a man endureth griefs, suffering wrongfully.

  16. For what glory is it, if, when ye sin, and are buffeted for it, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye shall take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.

  17. For hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that ye should follow his steps:

  18. who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:

  19. who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:

  20. Yea, and for this very cause adding on your part all diligence, in your faith supply virtue; and in your virtue knowledge;

  21. and in your knowledge self-control; and in your self-control patience; and in your patience godliness;

  22. I John, your brother and partaker with you in the tribulation and kingdom and patiencewhich arein Jesus, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God and the testimony of Jesus.

  23. I know thy works, and thy toil and patience, and that thou canst not bear evil men, and didst try them that call themselves apostles, and they are not, and didst find them false;

  24. and thou hast patience and didst bear for my name’s sake, and hast not grown weary.

  25. If any man is for captivity, into captivity he goeth: if any man shall kill with the sword, with the sword must he be killed. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.
