  1. `What think ye? if a man may have an hundred sheep, and there may go astray one of them, doth he not--having left the ninety-nine, having gone on the mountains--seek that which is gone astray?

  2. and if it may come to pass that he doth find it, verily I say to you, that he doth rejoice over it more than over the ninety-nine that have not gone astray;

  3. so it is not will in presence of your Father who is in the heavens, that one of these little ones may perish.

  4. `The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, Because He did anoint me; To proclaim good news to the poor, Sent me to heal the broken of heart, To proclaim to captives deliverance, And to blind receiving of sight, To send away the bruised with deliverance,

  5. `And judge not, and ye may not be judged; condemn not, and ye may not be condemned; release, and ye shall be released.

  6. and I say to you, Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you;

  7. for every one who is asking doth receive; and he who is seeking doth find; and to him who is knocking it shall be opened.

  8. `And of which of you--the father--if the son shall ask a loaf, a stone will he present to him? and if a fish, will he instead of a fish, a serpent present to him?

  9. and if he may ask an egg, will he present to him a scorpion?

  10. If, then, ye, being evil, have known good gifts to be giving to your children, how much more shall the Father who is from heaven give the Holy Spirit to those asking Him!'

  11. and every one whoever shall say a word to the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven to him, but to him who to the Holy Spirit did speak evil, it shall not be forgiven.

  12. `What man of you having a hundred sheep, and having lost one out of them, doth not leave behind the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go on after the lost one, till he may find it?

  13. and having found, he doth lay it on his shoulders rejoicing,

  14. and having come to the house, he doth call together the friends and the neighbours, saying to them, Rejoice with me, because I found my sheep--the lost one.

  15. `I say to you, that so joy shall be in the heaven over one sinner reforming, rather than over ninety-nine righteous men, who have no need of reformation.

  16. `Or what woman having ten drachms, if she may lose one drachm, doth not light a lamp, and sweep the house, and seek carefully till that she may find?

  17. and having found, she doth call together the female friends and the neighbours, saying, Rejoice with me, for I found the drachm that I lost.

  18. `So I say to you, joy doth come before the messengers of God over one sinner reforming.'

  19. And he said, `A certain man had two sons,

  20. and the younger of them said to the father, Father, give me the portion of the substance falling to me , and he divided to them the living.

  21. `And not many days after, having gathered all together, the younger son went abroad to a far country, and there he scattered his substance, living riotously;

  22. and he having spent all, there came a mighty famine on that country, and himself began to be in want;

  23. and having gone on, he joined himself to one of the citizens of that country, and he sent him to the fields to feed swine,

  24. and he was desirous to fill his belly from the husks that the swine were eating, and no one was giving to him.

  25. `And having come to himself, he said, How many hirelings of my father have a superabundance of bread, and I here with hunger am perishing!
