  1. because, as the sufferings of the Christ do abound to us, so through the Christ doth abound also our comfort;

  2. and whether we be in tribulation, it is for your comfort and salvation, that is wrought in the enduring of the same sufferings that we also suffer; whether we are comforted, it is for your comfort and salvation;

  11. who also made us sufficient to be ministrants of a new covenant, not of letter, but of spirit; for the letter doth kill, and the spirit doth make alive.

  12. Having, then, such hope, we use much freedom of speech,

  13. but did renounce for ourselves the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness, nor deceitfully using the word of God, but by the manifestation of the truth recommending ourselves unto every conscience of men, before God;

  14. for not ourselves do we preach, but Christ Jesus--Lord, and ourselves your servants because of Jesus;

  15. And we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us;

  16. on every side being in tribulation, but not straitened; perplexed, but not in despair;

  17. persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;

  18. in behalf of Christ, then, we are ambassadors, as if God were calling through us, we beseech, in behalf of Christ, `Be ye reconciled to God;'

  19. in nothing giving any cause of offence, that the ministration may be not blamed,

  20. but in everything recommending ourselves as God's ministrants; in much patience, in tribulations, in necessities, in distresses,

  21. as sorrowful, and always rejoicing; as poor, and making many rich; as having nothing, and possessing all things.

  22. great is my freedom of speech unto you, great my glory on your behalf; I have been filled with the comfort, I overabound with the joy on all our tribulation,

  23. but even as in every thing ye do abound, in faith, and word, and knowledge, and all diligence, and in your love to us, that also in this grace ye may abound;

  24. for even if also anything more abundantly I shall boast concerning our authority, that the Lord gave us for building up, and not for casting you down, I shall not be ashamed;

  25. Lo, a third time I am ready to come unto you, and I will not be a burden to you, for I seek not yours, but you, for the children ought not for the parents to lay up, but the parents for the children,
