  1. having your behaviour among the nations right, that in that which they speak against you as evil-doers, of the good works having beheld, they may glorify God in a day of inspection.

  2. Christ, then, having suffered for us in the flesh, ye also with the same mind arm yourselves, because he who did suffer in the flesh hath done with sin,

  3. no more in the desires of men, but in the will of God, to live the rest of the time in the flesh;

  8. through which to us the most great and precious promises have been given, that through these ye may become partakers of a divine nature, having escaped from the corruption in the world in desires.

  9. And this same also--all diligence having brought in besides, superadd in your faith the worthiness, and in the worthiness the knowledge,

  10. and in the knowledge the temperance, and in the temperance the endurance, and in the endurance the piety,

  11. and in the piety the brotherly kindness, and in the brotherly kindness the love;

  12. for these things being to you and abounding, do make you neither inert nor unfruitful in regard to the acknowledging of our Lord Jesus Christ,

  13. All these, then, being dissolved, what kind of persons doth it behove you to be in holy behaviours and pious acts?

  14. waiting for and hasting to the presence of the day of God, by which the heavens, being on fire, shall be dissolved, and the elements with burning heat shall melt;

  15. if we may say--`we have fellowship with Him,' and in the darkness may walk--we lie, and do not the truth;

  16. and if in the light we may walk, as He is in the light--we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son doth cleanse us from every sin;

  17. every one who is remaining in him doth not sin; every one who is sinning, hath not seen him, nor known him.

  18. Little children, let no one lead you astray; he who is doing the righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous,

  19. he who is doing the sin, of the devil he is, because from the beginning the devil doth sin; for this was the Son of God manifested, that he may break up the works of the devil;

  20. every one who hath been begotten of God, sin he doth not, because his seed in him doth remain, and he is not able to sin, because of God he hath been begotten.

  21. In this manifest are the children of God, and the children of the devil; every one who is not doing righteousness, is not of God, and he who is not loving his brother,

  22. because every one who is begotten of God doth overcome the world, and this is the victory that did overcome the world--our faith;

  23. who is he who is overcoming the world, if not he who is believing that Jesus is the Son of God?

  24. these are they who with women were not defiled, for they are virgin; these are they who are following the Lamb whithersoever he may go; these were bought from among men--a first-fruit to God and to the Lamb--

  25. and in their mouth there was not found guile, for unblemished are they before the throne of God.
