  1. And haue your conuersation honest among the Gentiles, that they which speake euill of you as of euill doers, may by your good woorkes which they shall see, glorifie God in the day of visitation.

  2. Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for vs in the flesh, arme your selues likewise with the same minde, which is, that he which hath suffered in the flesh, hath ceased from sinne,

  3. That he hence forward should liue (as much time as remaineth in the flesh) not after the lusts of men, but after the will of God.

  4. For vnto this purpose was the Gospell preached also vnto the dead, that they might bee condemned, according to men in the flesh, but might liue according to God in the spirit.

  5. Now the ende of all things is at hand. Be ye therefore sober, and watching in prayer.

  6. Grace and peace be multiplied to you, through the acknowledging of God, and of Iesus our Lord,

  7. According as his diuine power hath giuen vnto vs all things that perteine vnto life and godlinesse, through the acknowledging of him that hath called vs vnto glory and vertue.

  8. Whereby most great and precious promises are giuen vnto vs, that by them ye should be partakers of the diuine nature, in that ye flee the corruption, which is in the worlde through lust.

  9. Therefore giue euen all diligence thereunto: ioyne moreouer vertue with your faith: and with vertue, knowledge:

  10. And with knowledge, temperance: and with temperance, patience: and with patience, godlines:

  11. And with godlines, brotherly kindnes: and with brotherly kindnes, loue.

  12. For if these things be among you, and abound, they will make you that ye neither shalbe idle, nor vnfruitfull in the acknowledging of our Lord Iesus Christ:

  13. Seeing therefore that all these thinges must be dissolued, what maner persons ought ye to be in holy conuersation and godlinesse,

  14. Looking for, and hasting vnto the comming of that day of God, by the which the heauens being on fire, shall be dissolued, and the elements shall melt with heate?

  15. If wee say that wee haue fellowship with him, and walke in darkenesse, we lie, and doe not truely:

  16. But if we walke in the light as he is in the light, we haue fellowship one with another, and the blood of Iesus Christ his Sonne clenseth vs from all sinne.

  17. Whosoeuer abideth in him, sinneth not: whosoeuer sinneth, hath not seene him, neither hath knowen him.

  18. Litle children, let no man deceiue you: he that doeth righteousnes, is righteous, as hee is righteous.

  19. He that comitteth sinne, is of the deuil: for the deuill sinneth from the beginning: for this purpose was made manifest that Sonne of God, that he might loose the workes of the deuil.

  20. Whosoeuer is borne of God, sinneth not: for his seede remaineth in him, neither can hee sinne, because he is borne of God.

  21. In this are the children of God knowen, and the children of the deuil: whosoeuer doeth not righteousnesse, is not of God, neither he that loueth not his brother.

  22. For all that is borne of God, ouercommeth this world: and this is that victorie that hath ouercome this world, euen our faith.

  23. Who is it that ouercommeth this world, but he which beleeueth that Iesus is that Sonne of God?

  24. These are they, which are not defiled with women: for they are virgins: these follow the Lambe whithersoeuer he goeth: these are bought from men, being the first fruites vnto God, and to the Lambe.

  25. And in their mouthes was found no guile: for they are without spot before the throne of God.
