  1. “You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.

  15. but I tell you, don’t swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is the throne of God;

  16. nor by the earth, for it is the footstool of his feet; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.

  17. Neither shall you swear by your head, for you can’t make one hair white or black.

  18. “Woe to you, you blind guides, who say, ‘Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obligated.’

  19. He who swears by the temple, swears by it, and by him who was living in it.

  20. He who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God, and by him who sits on it.

  21. Then he began to curse and to swear, “I don’t know the man!” Immediately the rooster crowed.

  22. “whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness.”

  23. But above all things, my brothers, don’t swear, neither by heaven, nor by the earth, nor by any other oath; but let your “yes” be “yes”, and your “no”, “no”; so that you don’t fall into hypocrisy.
