  1. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain: for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that shall take the name of the Lord his God in vain.

  12. Hear the word of the Lord, ye children of Israel, for the Lord shall enter into judgment with the inhabitants of the land: for there is no truth, and there is no mercy, and there is no knowledge of God in the land.

  13. Cursing, and lying, and killing, and theft, and adultery, have overflowed, and blood hath touched blood.

  14. Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth in it shall languish with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of the air: yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be gathered together.

  15. But I say to you not to swear at all, neither by heaven for it is the throne of God:

  16. Nor by the earth, for it is his footstool: nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great king:

  17. Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.

  18. Woe to you, blind guides, that say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but he that shall swear by the gold of the temple is a debtor.

  19. And whosoever shall swear by the temple sweareth by it and by him that dwelleth in it.

  20. And he that sweareth by heaven sweareth by the throne of God and by him that sitteth thereon.

  21. Then he began to curse and to swear that he knew not the man. And immediately the cock crew.

  23. But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, nor by the earth, nor by any other oath. But let your speech be: Yea, Yea: No, No: that you fall not under judgment.
