  1. Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny.

  2. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription?

  3. They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.

  9. And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's. And they marvelled at him.

  10. ¶ And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.

  11. (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)

  12. And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.

  13. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)

  14. To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.

  15. Then came also publicans to be baptized, and said unto him, Master, what shall we do?

  16. And he said unto them, Exact no more than that which is appointed you.

  17. ¶ And after these things he went forth, and saw a publican, named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he said unto him, Follow me.

  18. ¶ There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.

  19. And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ a King.

  20. After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed.

  21. For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.

  22. ¶ Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.
