  1. ¶ The king that faithfully judgeth the poor, his throne shall be established for ever.

  2. For three things the earth is disquieted, and for four which it cannot bear:

  3. For a servant when he reigneth; and a fool when he is filled with meat;

  4. It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:

  5. Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.

  6. Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.

  7. Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.

  8. ¶ And moreover I saw under the sun the place of judgment, that wickedness was there; and the place of righteousness, that iniquity was there.

  9. I said in mine heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.

  10. ¶ So I returned, and considered all the oppressions that are done under the sun: and behold the tears of such as were oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors there was power; but they had no comforter.

  11. ¶ Better is a poor and a wise child than an old and foolish king, who will no more be admonished.

  12. For out of prison he cometh to reign; whereas also he that is born in his kingdom becometh poor.

  13. If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, marvel not at the matter: for he that is higher than the highest regardeth; and there be higher than they.

  14. Where the word of a king is, there is power: and who may say unto him, What doest thou?

  15. ¶ All this have I seen, and applied my heart unto every work that is done under the sun: there is a time wherein one man ruleth over another to his own hurt.

  16. There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, as an error which proceedeth from the ruler:

  17. Folly is set in great dignity, and the rich sit in low place.

  18. I have seen servants upon horses, and princes walking as servants upon the earth.

  19. ¶ Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a child, and thy princes eat in the morning!

  20. Blessed art thou, O land, when thy king is the son of nobles, and thy princes eat in due season, for strength, and not for drunkenness!

  21. Thy princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves: every one loveth gifts, and followeth after rewards: they judge not the fatherless, neither doth the cause of the widow come unto them.

  22. As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.

  23. The LORD will enter into judgment with the ancients of his people, and the princes thereof: for ye have eaten up the vineyard; the spoil of the poor is in your houses.

  24. What mean ye that ye beat my people to pieces, and grind the faces of the poor? saith the Lord GOD of hosts.

  25. For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for judgment, but behold oppression; for righteousness, but behold a cry.
