  1. And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;

  2. And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.

  3. Let people serve thee, and nations bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother's sons bow down to thee: cursed be every one that curseth thee, and blessed be he that blesseth thee.

  4. And Isaac answered and said unto Esau, Behold, I have made him thy lord, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants; and with corn and wine have I sustained him: and what shall I do now unto thee, my son?

  5. ¶ Now therefore let Pharaoh look out a man discreet and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt.

  6. Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me: and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them.

  7. When they have a matter, they come unto me; and I judge between one and another, and I do make them know the statutes of God, and his laws.

  8. And thou shalt teach them ordinances and laws, and shalt shew them the way wherein they must walk, and the work that they must do.

  9. Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:

  10. And let them judge the people at all seasons: and it shall be, that every great matter they shall bring unto thee, but every small matter they shall judge: so shall it be easier for thyself, and they shall bear the burden with thee.

  11. Neither shalt thou countenance a poor man in his cause.

  12. Thou shalt not wrest the judgment of thy poor in his cause.

  13. Keep thee far from a false matter; and the innocent and righteous slay thou not: for I will not justify the wicked.

  14. And thou shalt take no gift: for the gift blindeth the wise, and perverteth the words of the righteous.

  15. Also thou shalt not oppress a stranger: for ye know the heart of a stranger, seeing ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.

  16. Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honour the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour.

  17. Ye shall have one manner of law, as well for the stranger, as for one of your own country: for I am the LORD your God.

  18. Let the LORD, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation,

  19. Which may go out before them, and which may go in before them, and which may lead them out, and which may bring them in; that the congregation of the LORD be not as sheep which have no shepherd.

  20. Take you wise men, and understanding, and known among your tribes, and I will make them rulers over you.

  21. And I charged your judges at that time, saying, Hear the causes between your brethren, and judge righteously between every man and his brother, and the stranger that is with him.

  22. Ye shall not respect persons in judgment; but ye shall hear the small as well as the great; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is God's: and the cause that is too hard for you, bring it unto me, and I will hear it.

  23. ¶ Judges and officers shalt thou make thee in all thy gates, which the LORD thy God giveth thee, throughout thy tribes: and they shall judge the people with just judgment.

  24. Thou shalt not wrest judgment; thou shalt not respect persons, neither take a gift: for a gift doth blind the eyes of the wise, and pervert the words of the righteous.

  25. That which is altogether just shalt thou follow, that thou mayest live, and inherit the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
