  1. What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto him?

  2. And thou sayest, How doth God know? can he judge through the dark cloud?

  3. Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he seeth not; and he walketh in the circuit of heaven.

  4. Shall even he that hateth right govern? and wilt thou condemn him that is most just?

  5. Is it fit to say to a king, Thou art wicked? and to princes, Ye are ungodly?

  6. How much less to him that accepteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich more than the poor? for they all are the work of his hands.

  7. The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things:

  11. Therefore the LORD heard this, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel;

  12. Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation:

  13. Yet they say, The LORD shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob regard it.

  14. Understand, ye brutish among the people: and ye fools, when will ye be wise?

  15. He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? he that formed the eye, shall he not see?

  16. Yea, they despised the pleasant land, they believed not his word:

  17. But murmured in their tents, and hearkened not unto the voice of the LORD.

  18. Because they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned the counsel of the most High:

  19. Therefore he brought down their heart with labour; they fell down, and there was none to help.

  20. ¶ Woe unto them that draw iniquity with cords of vanity, and sin as it were with a cart rope:

  21. That say, Let him make speed, and hasten his work, that we may see it: and let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw nigh and come, that we may know it!

  22. Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble, and the flame consumeth the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: because they have cast away the law of the LORD of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.

  23. Therefore is the anger of the LORD kindled against his people, and he hath stretched forth his hand against them, and hath smitten them: and the hills did tremble, and their carcases were torn in the midst of the streets. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

  24. ¶ Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.

  25. For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:
