  1. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

  2. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

  3. ¶ I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators:

  4. Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world.

  5. And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward:

  6. Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;

  7. For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.

  8. But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.

  9. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

  10. Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

  11. Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

  12. ¶ And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;

  13. Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

  14. Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

  15. ¶ Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;

  16. That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

  17. ¶ This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,

  18. Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:

  19. Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
