  1. If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.

  2. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

  3. But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

  4. Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

  5. Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.

  6. And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.

  7. Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied.

  8. For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

  9. ¶ Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus:

  10. And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.

  11. There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

  12. But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.

  13. ¶ Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;

  14. Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

  15. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.

  16. And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation.

  17. ¶ For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

  18. Nevertheless God, that comforteth those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus;

  19. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

  20. Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;

  21. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

  22. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

  23. ¶ Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

  24. Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.

  25. ¶ Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,
