  1. And he said, While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept: for I said, Who can tell whether GOD will be gracious to me, that the child may live?

  9. To judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may no more oppress.

  10. But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children;

  11. To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them.

  12. His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed.

  13. Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth for ever.

  14. Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.

  15. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.

  16. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

  17. ¶ A Song of degrees. Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways.

  18. For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee.

  19. Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table.

  20. Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the LORD.

  21. Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.

  22. Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.

  23. Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land, and slain thy people: the seed of evildoers shall never be renowned.

  24. Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities.

  25. For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring:
