  1. Their eyes stande out for fatnesse: they haue more then heart can wish.

  2. They are licentious, and speake wickedly of their oppression: they talke presumptuously.

  3. They set their mouth against heauen, and their tongue walketh through the earth.

  4. Therefore his people turne hither: for waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.

  5. And they say, Howe doeth God know it? or is there knowledge in the most High?

  6. Lo, these are the wicked, yet prosper they alway, and increase in riches.

  7. Certainely I haue clensed mine heart in vaine, and washed mine hands in innocencie.

  8. For dayly haue I bene punished, and chastened euery morning.

  9. If I say, I will iudge thus, beholde the generation of thy children: I haue trespassed.

  10. Then thought I to know this, but it was too painefull for me,

  11. Vntill I went into the Sanctuarie of God: then vnderstoode I their ende.

  12. Surely thou hast set them in slipperie places, and castest them downe into desolation.

  13. How suddenly are they destroyed, perished and horribly consumed,

  14. As a dreame when one awaketh! O Lord, when thou raisest vs vp, thou shalt make their image despised.

  15. Certainely mine heart was vexed, and I was pricked in my reines:

  16. So foolish was I and ignorant: I was a beast before thee.

  17. The poore is hated euen of his own neighbour: but the friendes of the rich are many.

  18. The rich mans riches are his strong citie: and as an hie wall in his imagination.

  19. The poore speaketh with prayers: but the rich answereth roughly.

  20. The riche man is wise in his owne conceite: but the poore that hath vnderstanding, can trie him.

  21. And these riches perish by euill trauel, and he begetteth a sonne, and in his hand is nothing.

  22. As hee came foorth of his mothers belly, he shall returne naked to goe as he came, and shall beare away nothing of his labour, which hee hath caused to passe by his hand.

  23. Surely hee will not much remember the dayes of his life, because God answereth to the ioy of his heart.

  24. For he shall not much remember the days of his life; because God answereth him in the joy of his heart.

  25. Howe should I spare thee for this? thy children haue forsaken me, and sworne by them that are no gods: though I fed them to the full, yet they committed adulterie, and assembled them selues by companies in the harlots houses.
