  1. And Eliiah the Tishbite one of the inhabitats of Gilead sayde vnto Ahab, As the Lord God of Israel liueth, before whom I stand, there shall be neither dewe nor rayne these yeeres, but according to my worde.

  2. And after a while the riuer dryed vp, because there fell no rayne vpon the earth.

  3. After many dayes, the worde of the Lord came to Eliiah, in the third yeere, saying, Goe, shewe thy selfe vnto Ahab, and I will sende rayne vpon the earth.

  4. And Eliiah went to shew himselfe vnto Ahab, and there was a great famine in Samaria.

  5. And at the seuenth time he sayd, Behold, there ariseth a litle cloude out of the sea like a mans hand. Then he sayd, Vp, and say vnto Ahab, Make readie thy charet, and get thee downe, that the raine stay thee not.

  6. And in the meane while the heauen was blacke with cloudes and winde, and there was a great rayne. Then Ahab went vp and came to Izreel.

  7. When heauen shall be shut vp, and there shalbe no rayne, because they haue sinned against thee, and shall pray in this place, and confesse thy Name, and turne from their sinne, when thou doest afflict them,

  8. Then heare thou in heauen, and pardon the sinne of thy seruants, and of thy people Israel (when thou hast taught them the good way wherein they may walke) and giue rayne vpon thy lande, which thou hast giuen vnto thy people for an inheritance.

  9. If I shut the heauen that there be no raine, or if I commaund the grashopper to deuoure the lande, or if I sende pestilence among my people,

  10. If my people, among whome my Name is called vpon, doe humble them selues, and praye, and seeke my presence, and turne from their wicked wayes, then will I heare in heauen, and be mercifull to their sinne, and wil heale their land:

  11. Then all the men of Iudah and Beniamin assembled theselues vnto Ierusalem within three dayes, which was the twentieth day of the ninth moneth, and all the people sate in the streete of the house of God, trembling for this matter, and for the raine.

  12. But the people are many, and it is a raynie weather, and we are not able to stande without, neither is it the worke of one day or two: for we are many that haue offended in this thing.

  13. He giueth raine vpon the earth, and powreth water vpon the streetes,

  14. He shall be about to fill his belly, but God shall sende vpon him his fierce wrath, and shall cause to rayne vpon him, euen vpon his meate.

  15. When he made a decree for the rayne, and a way for the lightening of the thunders,

  16. And they wayted for me, as for the raine, and they opened their mouth as for the latter rayne.

  17. Beholde, God is excellent, and we knowe him not, neither can the nomber of his yeres bee searched out.

  18. When he restraineth the droppes of water, the rayne powreth down by the vapour thereof,

  19. Which raine the cloudes do droppe and let fall abundantly vpon man.

  20. For he sayth to the snowe, Be thou vpon the earth: likewise to the small rayne and to the great rayne of his power.

  21. Vpon the wicked he shall raine snares, fire, and brimstone, and stormie tempest: this is the porcion of their cup.

  22. Thou, O God, sendest a gracious raine vpon thine inheritance, and thou didest refresh it when it was wearie.

  23. He shall come downe like the rayne vpon the mowen grasse, and as the showres that water the earth.

  24. The cloudes powred out water: the heauens gaue a sounde: yea, thine arrowes went abroade.

  25. They going through the vale of Baca, make welles therein: the raine also couereth the pooles.
