  1. To him that excelleth. A Psalme of Dauid. Blessed is he that iudgeth wisely of the poore: the Lord shall deliuer him in ye time of trouble.

  2. The Lord will keepe him, and preserue him aliue: he shalbe blessed vpon the earth, and thou wilt not deliuer him vnto the will of his enemies.

  3. The Lord wil strengthen him vpon ye bed of sorow: thou hast turned al his bed in his sicknes.

  4. A song of degrees. Lord, remember Dauid with all his affliction.

  5. Who sware vnto the Lord, and vowed vnto the mightie God of Iaakob, saying,

  6. I will not enter into the tabernacle of mine house, nor come vpon my pallet or bed,

  7. Nor suffer mine eyes to sleepe, nor mine eye lids to slumber,

  8. Vntill I finde out a place for the Lord, an habitation for the mightie God of Iaakob.

  9. Honour the Lord with thy riches, and with the first fruites of all thine increase.

  10. So shall thy barnes be filled with abundance, and thy presses shall burst with newe wine.

  11. There is that scattereth, and is more increased: but hee that spareth more then is right, surely commeth to pouertie.

  12. The liberall person shall haue plentie: and he that watereth, shall also haue raine.

  13. Cast thy bread vpon the waters: for after many daies thou shalt finde it.

  14. Giue a portion to seuen, and also to eight: for thou knowest not what euill shalbe vpon ye earth.

  15. I smote you with blasting, and with mildewe, and with haile, in all the labours of your hands: yet you turned not to me, saith the Lord.

  16. Consider, I pray you, in your mindes, from this day, and afore from the foure and twentieth day of the ninth moneth, euen from the day that the foundation of the Lords Temple was laide: consider it in your mindes.

  17. Bring ye all the tythes into the storehouse that there may be meate in mine House, and proue me nowe herewith, sayeth the Lord of hostes, if I will not open the windowes of heauen vnto you, and powre you out a blessing without measure.

  18. And I will rebuke the deuourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruite of your grounde, neither shall your vine be baren in the fielde, sayeth the Lord of hostes.

  19. And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a pleasant lande, sayeth the Lord of hostes.

  20. Take heede that ye giue not your almes before men, to be seene of them, or els ye shall haue no reward of your Father which is in heaue.

  21. Therefore when thou giuest thine almes, thou shalt not make a trumpet to be blowen before thee, as the hypocrites doe in the Synagogues and in the streetes, to be praysed of men. Verely I say vnto you, they haue their rewarde.

  22. But when thou doest thine almes, let not thy left hand knowe what thy right hand doeth,

  23. That thine almes may be in secret, and thy Father that seeth in secret, hee will rewarde thee openly.

  24. Iesus sayd vnto him, If thou wilt be perfite, go, sell that thou hast, and giue it to the poore, and thou shalt haue treasure in heauen, and come, and follow me.

  25. And when the yong man heard that saying, he went away sorowfull: for he had great possessions.
