  13. Cast your bread upon the waters, for after many days you will find it again.

  14. Divide your portion among seven, or even eight, for you do not know what disaster may befall the land.

  15. Consider carefully from this day forward—from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, the day the foundation of the LORD’s temple was laid—consider carefully:

  16. Is there still seed in the barn? The vine, the fig, the pomegranate, and the olive tree have not yet yielded fruit. But from this day on, I will bless you.”

  21. So when you give to the needy, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. Truly I tell you, they already have their full reward.

  22. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,

  23. so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

  24. Jesus told him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me.”

  25. When the young man heard this, he went away in sorrow, because he had great wealth.
