  1. ¶ Then thou spakest in vision to thy holy one, and saidst, I have laid help upon one that is mighty; I have exalted one chosen out of the people.

  2. When prophecy shall fail, the people shall be scattered abroad: but he that keepeth the law, is blessed.

  8. The vision of Obadiah. Thus saith the Lord God to Edom: We have heard a rumour from the Lord, and he hath sent an ambassador to the nations: Arise, and let us rise up to battle against him.

  9. And the Lord answered me, and said: Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables: that he that readeth it may run over it.

  10. And Jesus being baptized, forthwith came out of the water: and lo, the heavens were opened to him: and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon him.

  11. And after six days Jesus taketh unto him Peter and James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into a high mountain apart:

  12. And he was transfigured before them. And his face did shine as the sun: and his garments became white as snow.

  13. And behold there appeared to them Moses and Elias talking with him.

  14. And Peter answering, said to Jesus: Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.

  15. And as he was yet speaking, behold a bright cloud overshadowed them. And lo a voice out of the cloud, saying: This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased: hear ye him.

  16. And the disciples hearing fell upon their face, and were very much afraid.

  17. And Jesus came and touched them: and said to them: Arise, and fear not.

  18. And they lifting up their eyes, saw no one, but only Jesus.

  19. And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying: Tell the vision to no man, till the Son of man be risen from the dead.

  20. And forthwith coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens open and the Spirit as a dove descending and remaining on him.

  21. But the angel said to him: Fear not, Zachary, for thy prayer is heard: and thy wife Elizabeth shall bear thee a son. And thou shalt call his name John.

  22. And thou shalt have joy and gladness: and many shall rejoice in his nativity.

  23. For he shall be great before the Lord and shall drink no wine nor strong drink: and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb.

  24. And he shall convert many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God.

  25. And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias: that he may turn the hearts of the fathers unto the children and the incredulous to the wisdom of the just, to prepare unto the Lord a perfect people.
