  1. And to wait for his Son from heaven (whom he raised up from the dead), Jesus, who hath delivered us from the wrath to come.

  2. We are bound to give thanks always to God for you, brethren, as it is fitting, because your faith groweth exceedingly and the charity of every one of you towards each other aboundeth.

  3. So that we ourselves also glory in you in the churches of God, for your patience and faith, and in all your persecutions and tribulations: which you endure

  4. For an example of the just judgment of God, that you may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which also you suffer.

  5. But we ought to give thanks to God always for you, brethren, beloved of God, for that God hath chosen you firstfruits unto salvation, in sanctification of the spirit and faith of the truth:

  6. In like manner, women also in decent apparel: adorning themselves with modesty and sobriety, not with plaited hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly attire:

  7. But, as it becometh women professing godliness, with good works.

  8. Let a widow be chosen of no less than threescore years of age, who hath been the wife of one husband.

  9. Having testimony for her good works, if she have brought up children, if she have received to harbour, if she have washed the saints' feet, if she have ministered to them that suffer tribulation, if she have diligently followed every good work.

  10. But thou, O man of God, fly these things: and pursue justice, godliness, faith, charity, patience, mildness.

  11. Who hath delivered us and called us by his holy calling, not according to our own works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the times of the world:

  12. But flee thou youthful desires, and pursue justice, faith, charity and peace with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

  13. All scripture, inspired of God, is profitable to teach, to reprove, to correct, to instruct in justice:

  14. For I am even now ready to be sacrificed: and the time of my dissolution is at hand.

  15. I have fought a good fight: I have finished my course: I have kept the faith.

  16. As to the rest, there is laid up for me a crown of justice which the Lord the just judge will render to me in that day: and not only to me, but to them also that love his coming. Make haste to come to me quickly.

  17. That the aged men be sober, chaste, prudent, sound in faith, in love, in patience.

  18. For the grace of God our Saviour hath appeared to all men:

  19. Instructing us, that, denying ungodliness and worldly desires, we should live soberly and justly and godly in this world,

  20. Not by the works of justice which we have done, but according to his mercy, he saved us, by the laver of regeneration and renovation of the Holy Ghost.

  21. And let our men also learn to excel in good works for necessary uses: that they be not unfruitful.

  22. Hearing of thy charity and faith, which thou hast in the Lord Jesus and towards all the saints:

  23. That the communication of thy faith may be made evident in the acknowledgment of every good work that is in you in Christ Jesus.

  24. But to the Son: Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of justice is the sceptre of thy kingdom.

  25. Thou hast loved justice and hated iniquity: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
