  1. But they provoked thee to wrath, and departed from thee, and threw thy law behind their backs: and they killed thy prophets, who admonished them earnestly to return to thee: and they were guilty of great blasphemies.

  2. And thou gavest them into the hands of their enemies, and they afflicted them. And in the time of their tribulation they cried to thee, and thou heardest from heaven, and according to the multitude of thy tender mercies thou gavest them saviours, to save them from the hands of their enemies.

  10. Remember not our former iniquities: let thy mercies speedily prevent us, for we are become exceeding poor.

  11. These have seen the works of the Lord, and his wonders in the deep.

  12. He said the word, and there arose a storm of wind: and the waves thereof were lifted up.

  13. They mount up to the heavens, and they go down to the depths: their soul pined away with evils.

  14. They were troubled, and reeled like a drunken man; and all their wisdom was swallowed up.

  15. Who will bring me into the strong city? who will lead me into Edom?

  16. Wilt not thou, O God, who hast cast us off ? and wilt not thou, O God, go forth with our armies?

  17. Hear, O ye heavens, and give ear, O earth, for the Lord hath spoken. I have brought up children, and exalted them: but they have despised me.

  18. The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master's crib: but Israel hath not known me, and my people hath not understood.

  19. For what shall I strike you any more, you that increase transgression? the whole head is sick, and the whole heart is sad.

  20. But if you will not, and will provoke me to wrath: the sword shall devour you because the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.

  21. Thy princes are faithless, companions of thieves: they all love bribes, they run after rewards. They judge not for the fatherless: and the widow's cause cometh not in to them.

  22. Woe to you, apostate children, saith the Lord, that you would take counsel, and not of me: and would begin a web, and not by my spirit, that you might add sin upon sin:

  23. Now therefore go in and write for them upon box, and note it diligently in a book, and it shall be in the latter days for a testimony for ever.

  24. For it is a people that provoketh to wrath, and lying children that will not hear the law of God.

  25. Return as you had deeply revolted, O children of Israel.
