  1. And thou shalt appoint certain limits to the people round about, and thou shalt say to them: Take heed ye go not up into the mount, and that ye touch not the borders thereof: every one that toucheth the mount, dying he shall die.

  2. No hands shall touch him, but he shall be stoned to death, or he shall be shot through with arrows: whether it be beast, or man, he shall not live. When the trumpet shall begin to sound, then let them go up into the mount.

  3. And all the people saw the voices and the flames, and the sound of the trumpet, and the mount smoking; and being terrified and struck with fear, they stood afar off,

  4. Saying to Moses: Speak thou to us, and we will hear: let not the Lord speak to us, lest we die.

  5. And Moses said to the people: Fear not; for God is come to prove you, and that the dread of him might be in you, and you should not sin.

  6. Thou shalt fear the Lord thy God, and serve him only: to him thou shalt adhere, and shalt swear by his name.

  7. He is thy praise, and thy God, that hath done for thee these great and terrible things, which thy eyes have seen.

  8. My foot hath stood in the direct way: in the churches I will bless thee, O Lord.

  9. His soul shall dwell at ease; and his seed shall inherit the earth.

  10. The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.

  11. In the fear of the Lord is confidence of strength, and there shall be hope for his children.

  12. The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, to decline from the ruin of death.

  13. And they shall go into the holes of rocks, and into the caves of the earth from the face of the fear of the Lord, and from the glory of his majesty, when he shall rise up to strike the earth.

  14. In that day a man shall cast away his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which he had made for himself to adore, moles and bats.

  15. And he shall go into the clefts of rocks, and into the holes of stones from the face of the fear of the Lord, and from the glory of his majesty, when he shall rise up to strike the earth.

  16. And I will give them one heart, and one way, that they may fear me all days: and that it may be well with them, and with their children after them.

  17. And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, and will not cease to do them good: and I will give my fear in their heart, that they may not revolt from me.

  18. The nations shall see, and shall be confounded at all their strength: they shall put the hand upon the mouth, their ears shall be deaf.

  19. They shall lick the dust like serpents, as the creeping things of the earth, they shall be disturbed in their houses: they shall dread the Lord, our God, and shall fear thee.

  20. For you are not come to a mountain that might be touched and a burning fire and a whirlwind and darkness and storm,

  21. And the sound of a trumpet and the voice of words, which they that had excused themselves, that the word might not be spoken to them.

  22. For they did not endure that which was said: and if so much as a beast shall touch the mount, it shall be stoned.

  23. And so terrible was that which was seen, Moses said: I am frighted, and tremble.

  24. But you are come to mount Sion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to the company of many thousands of angels,

  25. And to the church of the firstborn who are written in the heavens, and to God the judge of all, and to the spirits of the just made perfect,
