  1. And thou shalt set bounds unto the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves, that ye go not up into the mount, or touch the border of it: whosoever toucheth the mount shall be surely put to death:

  2. no hand shall touch him, but he shall surely be stoned, or shot through; whether it be beast or man, he shall not live: when the trumpet soundeth long, they shall come up to the mount.

  3. And all the people perceived the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the voice of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they trembled, and stood afar off.

  4. And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear; but let not God speak with us, lest we die.

  5. And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before you, that ye sin not.

  6. Thou shalt fear Jehovah thy God; him shalt thou serve; and to him shalt thou cleave, and by his name shalt thou swear.

  7. He is thy praise, and he is thy God, that hath done for thee these great and terrible things, which thine eyes have seen.

  8. What man is he that feareth Jehovah? Him shall he instruct in the way that he shall choose.

  9. His soul shall dwell at ease; And his seed shall inherit the land.

  10. The friendship of Jehovah is with them that fear him; And he will show them his covenant.

  11. In the fear of Jehovah is strong confidence; And his children shall have a place of refuge.

  12. The fear of Jehovah is a fountain of life, That one may depart from the snares of death.

  13. And men shall go into the caves of the rocks, and into the holes of the earth, from before the terror of Jehovah, and from the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake mightily the earth.

  14. In that day men shall cast away their idols of silver, and their idols of gold, which have been made for them to worship, to the moles and to the bats;

  15. to go into the caverns of the rocks, and into the clefts of the ragged rocks, from before the terror of Jehovah, and from the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake mightily the earth.

  16. and I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me for ever, for the good of them, and of their children after them:

  17. and I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from following them, to do them good; and I will put my fear in their hearts, that they may not depart from me.

  18. The nations shall see and be ashamed of all their might; they shall lay their hand upon their mouth; their ears shall be deaf.

  19. They shall lick the dust like a serpent; like crawling things of the earth they shall come trembling out of their close places; they shall come with fear unto Jehovah our God, and shall be afraid because of thee.

  20. For ye are not come unto a mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, and unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest,

  21. and the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heard entreated that no word more should be spoken unto them;

  22. for they could not endure that which was enjoined, If even a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned;

  23. and so fearful was the appearance, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake:

  24. but ye are come unto mount Zion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable hosts of angels,

  25. to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,
