  1. and ADONAI sent out a wind which brought quails from across the sea and let them fall near the camp, about a day's trip away on each side of the camp and all around it, covering the ground to a depth of three feet.

  2. The people stayed up all that day, all night and all the next day gathering the quails - the person gathering the least collected ten heaps; then they spread them out for themselves all around the camp.

  3. But while the meat was still in their mouth, before they had chewed it up, the anger of ADONAI flared up against the people, and ADONAI struck the people with a terrible plague.

  4. "Anyone who touches a corpse, no matter whose dead body it is, will be unclean for seven days.

  5. He must purify himself with [these ashes] on the third and seventh days; then he will be clean. But if he does not purify himself the third and seventh days, he will not be clean.

  6. Anyone who touches a corpse, no matter whose dead body it is, and does not purify himself has defiled the tabernacle of ADONAI. That person will be cut off from Isra'el, because the water for purification was not sprinkled on him. He will be unclean; his uncleanness is still on him.

  7. "This is the law: when a person dies in a tent, everyone who enters the tent and everything in the tent will be unclean for seven days.

  8. Every open container without a cover closely attached is unclean.

  9. Also whoever is in an open field and touches a corpse, whether of someone killed by a weapon or of someone who died naturally, or the bone of a person, or a grave, will be unclean for seven days.

  10. Anything the unclean person touches will be unclean, and anyone who touches him will be unclean until evening."

  11. Pitch your tents outside the camp for seven days. Whoever has killed a person or touched the corpse of someone slain, purify yourselves on the third and seventh days, you and your captives.

  12. Also purify every garment, whether of skin or goat's hair, and everything made of wood."

  13. But don't eat the blood; pour it out on the ground like water.

  14. "When ADONAI your God expands your territory, as he has promised you, and you say, 'I want to eat meat,' simply because you want to eat meat, then you may eat meat, as much as you want.

  15. If the place which ADONAI your God chooses to place his name is too far away from you; then you are to slaughter animals from your cattle or sheep, which ADONAI has given you; and eat on your own property, as much as you want.

  16. Eat it as you would gazelle or deer; the unclean and clean alike may eat it.

  17. Just take care not to eat the blood, for the blood is the life, and you are not to eat the life with the meat.

  18. Don't eat it, but pour it out on the ground like water.

  19. Do not eat it, so that things will go well with you and with your children after you, as you do what ADONAI sees as right.

  20. "You are not to eat anything disgusting.

  21. The animals which you may eat are: ox, sheep, goat,

  22. deer, gazelle, roebuck, ibex, antelope, oryx and mountain sheep.

  23. Any animal that has a separate hoof that is completely divided and also chews the cud, these animals you may eat.

  24. But you are not to eat those that only chew the cud or only have a divided hoof. For example, the camel, the hare and the coney are unclean for you because they chew the cud but don't have a separate hoof;

  25. while the pig is unclean for you because, although it has a separate hoof, it doesn't chew the cud. You are not to eat meat from these or touch their carcasses.
