  9. All Israel, foreigners and citizens alike, with their elders, officers, and judges, stood on both sides of the ark of the covenant of the LORD facing the Levitical priests who carried it. Half of the people stood in front of Mount Gerizim and half of them in front of Mount Ebal, as Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded earlier, to bless the people of Israel.

  10. Wash and cleanse yourselves. Remove your evil deeds from My sight. Stop doing evil!

  11. Learn to do right; seek justice and correct the oppressor. Defend the fatherless and plead the case of the widow.”

  12. “Come now, let us reason together,” says the LORD. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they will be as white as snow; though they are as red as crimson, they will become like wool.

  13. If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the best of the land.

  14. But if you resist and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword.” For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.

  15. Tell the righteous it will be well with them, for they will enjoy the fruit of their labor.

  16. Behold, the Lord GOD comes with might, and His arm establishes His rule. His reward is with Him, and His recompense accompanies Him.

  17. He tends His flock like a shepherd; He gathers the lambs in His arms and carries them close to His heart. He gently leads the nursing ewes.

  18. If, however, you listen carefully to Me, says the LORD, and bring no load through the gates of this city on the Sabbath day, and keep the Sabbath day holy, and do no work on it,

  19. then kings and princes will enter through the gates of this city. They will sit on the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses with their officials, along with the men of Judah and the residents of Jerusalem, and this city will be inhabited forever.

  20. And people will come from the cities of Judah and the places around Jerusalem, from the land of Benjamin, and from the foothills, the hill country, and the Negev, bringing burnt offerings and sacrifices, grain offerings and frankincense, and thank offerings to the house of the LORD.

  21. This is what the LORD says: Administer justice and righteousness. Rescue the victim of robbery from the hand of his oppressor. Do no wrong or violence to the foreigner, the fatherless, or the widow. Do not shed innocent blood in this place.

  22. For if you will indeed carry out these commands, then kings who sit on David’s throne will enter through the gates of this palace riding on chariots and horses—they and their officials and their people.

  23. Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father in heaven.

  24. Then Jesus told His disciples, “If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me.

  25. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.
