  1. But he answered and said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, and I never transgressed a commandment of thine; and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:

  2. but when this thy son came, who hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou killedst for him the fatted calf.

  9. And when Jesus heard it, he said unto him, One thing thou lackest yet: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

  10. But when he heard these things, he became exceeding sorrowful; for he was very rich.

  11. Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an ensample to them that believe, in word, in manner of life, in love, in faith, in purity.

  12. But flee youthful lusts, and follow after righteousness, faith, love, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

  13. But foolish and ignorant questionings refuse, knowing that they gender strifes.

  14. the younger men likewise exhort to be sober-minded:

  15. By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter;

  16. choosing rather to share ill treatment with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;

  17. accounting the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt: for he looked unto the recompense of reward.

  18. I write unto you, fathers, because ye know him who is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the evil one. I have written unto you, little children, because ye know the Father.

  19. I have written unto you, fathers, because ye know him who is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the evil one.

  20. Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

  21. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the vainglory of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

  22. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
