Know therefore, that Jehovah thy God giveth thee not this good land to possess it for thy righteousness; for thou art a stiffnecked people.

He will keep the feet of his holy ones; But the wicked shall be put to silence in darkness; For by strength shall no man prevail.

Is it not that I have no help in me, And that wisdom is driven quite from me?

For thou sayest, My doctrine is pure, And I am clean in thine eyes.

But oh that God would speak, And open his lips against thee,

And that he would show thee the secrets of wisdom! For he is manifold in understanding. Know therefore that God exacteth of thee less than thine iniquity deserveth.

No doubt but ye are the people, And wisdom shall die with you.

Surely I would speak to the Almighty, And I desire to reason with God.

Hold your peace, let me alone, that I may speak; And let come on me what will.

Behold, he will slay me; I have no hope: Nevertheless I will maintain my ways before him.

Behold now, I have set my cause in order; I know that I am righteous.

Who is he that will contend with me? For then would I hold my peace and give up the ghost.

Although there is no violence in my hands, And my prayer is pure.

O earth, cover not thou my blood, And let my cry have noresting-place.

How long will ye hunt for words? Consider, and afterwards we will speak.

Wherefore are we counted as beasts, Andare become unclean in your sight?

Behold, I know your thoughts, And the devices wherewith ye would wrong me.

Have ye not asked wayfaring men? And do ye not know their evidences,

Can a man be profitable unto God? Surely he that is wise is profitable unto himself.

Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? Or is it gainto him, that thou makest thy ways perfect?
