  1. Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am Jehovah that sanctifieth them.

But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness: they walked not in my statutes, and they rejected mine ordinances, which if a man keep, he shall live in them; and my sabbaths they greatly profaned. Then I said I would pour out my wrath upon them in the wilderness, to consume them.

  10. Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: The gate of the inner court that looketh toward the east shall be shut the six working days; but on the sabbath day it shall be opened, and on the day of the new moon it shall be opened.

  11. And the people of the land shall worship at the door of that gate before Jehovah on the sabbaths and on the new moons.

  12. And the burnt-offering that the prince shall offer unto Jehovah shall be on the sabbath day six lambs without blemish and a ram without blemish;

  13. and the meal-offering shall be an ephah for the ram, and the meal-offering for the lambs as he is able to give, and a hin of oil to an ephah.

  14. I will also cause all her mirth to cease, her feasts, her new moons, and her sabbaths, and all her solemn assemblies.

  15. saying, When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell grain? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and dealing falsely with balances of deceit;

  16. At that season Jesus went on the sabbath day through the grainfields; and his disciples were hungry and began to pluck ears and to eat.

  17. But the Pharisees, when they saw it, said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which it is not lawful to do upon the sabbath.

  18. But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was hungry, and they that were with him;

  19. how he entered into the house of God, and ate the showbread, which it was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them that were with him, but only for the priests?

  20. Or have ye not read in the law, that on the sabbath day the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are guiltless?

  21. But I say unto you, that one greater than the temple is here.

  22. But if ye had known what this meaneth, I desire mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless.

  23. For the Son of man is lord of the sabbath.

  24. and behold, a man having a withered hand. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day? that they might accuse him.

  25. And he said unto them, What man shall there be of you, that shall have one sheep, and if this fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?
