  1. Moreover I gave them also my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them: and that they might know that I am the Lord that sanctify them.

  2. But the house of Israel provoked me in the desert: they walked not in my statutes, and they cast away my judgments, which if a man do he shall live in them: and they grievously violated my sabbaths. I said therefore that I would pour out my indignation upon them in the desert, and would consume them.

  3. Because they cast off my judgments, and walked not in my statutes, and violated my sabbaths: for their heart went after idols.

  4. And sanctify my sabbaths, that they may be a sign between me and you: and that you may know that I am the Lord your God.

  5. But their children provoked me, they walked not in my commandments, nor observed my judgments to do them: which if a man do, he shall live in them: and they violated my sabbaths: and I threatened to pour out my indignation upon them, and to accomplish my wrath in them in the desert.

  6. Because they had not done my judgments, and had cast off my statutes, and had violated my sabbaths, and their eyes had been after the idols of their fathers.

  7. Thou hast despised my sanctuaries, and profaned my sabbaths.

  8. Yea, and they have done this to me. They polluted my sanctuary on the same day, and profaned my sabbaths.

  9. And when there shall be a controversy, they shall stand in my judgments, and shall judge: they shall keep my laws, and my ordinances in all my solemnities, and sanctify my sabbaths.

  10. Thus saith the Lord God: The gate of the inner court that looketh toward the east, shall be shut the six days, on which work is done; but on the sabbath day it shall be opened, yea and on the day of the new moon it shall be opened.

  11. And the people of the land shall adore at the door of that gate before the Lord on the sabbaths, and on the new moons.

  12. And the holocaust that the prince shall offer to the Lord on the sabbath day, shall be six lambs without blemish, and a ram without blemish.

  13. And the sacrifice of all ephi for a ram: but for the lambs what sacrifice his hand shall allow: and a hin of oil for every ephi.

  14. And I will cause all her mirth to cease, her solemnities, her new moons, her sabbaths, and all her festival times.

  15. Saying: When will the month be over, and we shall sell our wares: and the sabbath, and we shall open the corn: that we may lessen the measure, and increase the sicle, and may convey in deceitful balances,

  16. At that time Jesus went through the corn on the sabbath: and his disciples being hungry, began to pluck the ears, and to eat.

  17. And the Pharisees seeing them, said to him: Behold thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do on the sabbath days.

  18. But he said to them: Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, and they that were with him:

  19. How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the loaves of proposition, which it was not lawful for him to eat, nor for them that were with him, but for the priests only?

  20. Or have ye not read in the law, that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple break the sabbath, and are without blame?

  21. But I tell you that there is here a greater than the temple.

  22. And if you knew what this meaneth: I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: you would never have condemned the innocent.

  23. For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath.

  24. And behold there was a man who had a withered hand, and they asked him, saying: Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him.

  25. But he said to them: What man shall there be among you, that hath one sheep: and if the same fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not take hold on it and lift it up?
