  1. And the first came before him, saying, Lord, thy pound hath made ten pounds more.

  2. And he said unto him, Well done, thou good servant: because thou wast found faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.

  3. And the second came, saying, Thy pound, Lord, hath made five pounds.

  4. And he said unto him also, Be thou also over five cities.

  5. And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I kept laid up in a napkin:

  6. for I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that which thou layedst not down, and reapest that which thou didst not sow.

  7. He saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I am an austere man, taking up that which I laid not down, and reaping that which I did not sow;

  8. then wherefore gavest thou not my money into the bank, and I at my coming should have required it with interest?

  9. And he said unto them that stood by, Take away from him the pound, and give it unto him that hath the ten pounds.

  10. And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.

  11. I say unto you, that unto every one that hath shall be given; but from him that hath not, even that which he hath shall be taken away from him.

  12. And in the hearing of all the people he said unto his disciples,

  13. Beware of the scribes, who desire to walk in long robes, and love salutations in the marketplaces, and chief seats in the synagogues, and chief places at feasts;

  14. who devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater condemnation.

  15. And I will show wonders in the heaven above, And signs on the earth beneath; Blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke:

  16. The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the day of the Lord come, That great and notable day:

  17. And it shall be, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

  18. but after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up for thyself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

  19. who will render to every man according to his works:

  20. to them that by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and incorruption, eternal life:

  21. but unto them that are factious, and obey not the truth, but obey unrighteousness, shall be wrath and indignation,

  22. tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that worketh evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Greek;

  23. but glory and honor and peace to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek:

  24. For as many as have sinned without the law shall also perish without the law: and as many as have sinned under the law shall be judged by the law;

  25. for not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified;
