  1. show me the tribute-coin?' and they brought to him a denary;

  11. this enrolment first came to pass when Cyrenius was governor of Syria--

  12. and all were going to be enrolled, each to his proper city,

  13. and Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, that is called Bethlehem, because of his being of the house and family of David,

  14. to enrol himself with Mary his betrothed wife, being with child.

  15. And there came also tax-gatherers to be baptised, and they said unto him, `Teacher, what shall we do?'

  16. and he said unto them, `Exact no more than that directed you.'

  17. And after these things he went forth, and beheld a tax-gatherer, by name Levi, sitting at the tax-office, and said to him, `Be following me;'

  18. And there were present certain at that time, telling him about the Galileans, whose blood Pilate did mingle with their sacrifices;

  19. and began to accuse him, saying, `This one we found perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying himself to be Christ a king.'

  20. `After this one rose up, Judas the Galilean, in the days of the enrolment, and drew away much people after him, and that one perished, and all, as many as were obeying him, were scattered;

  21. for because of this also pay ye tribute; for servants of God they are, on this very thing attending continually;

  22. render, therefore, to all their dues; to whom tribute, the tribute; to whom custom, the custom; to whom fear, the fear; to whom honour, the honour.
