  17. for your obedience did reach to all; I rejoice, therefore, as regards you, and I wish you to be wise, indeed, as to the good, and harmless as to the evil;

  18. Let no one deceive himself; if any one doth seem to be wise among you in this age--let him become a fool, that he may become wise,

  19. Brethren, become not children in the understanding, but in the evil be ye babes, and in the understanding become ye perfect;

  20. For our glorying is this: the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and sincerity of God, not in fleshly wisdom, but in the grace of God, we did conduct ourselves in the world, and more abundantly toward you;

  21. and I fear, lest, as the serpent did beguile Eve in his subtilty, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in the Christ;

  22. for our exhortation is not out of deceit, nor out of uncleanness, nor in guile,

  23. but as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the good news, so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God, who is proving our hearts,

  24. for at no time did we come with speech of flattery, (as ye have known,) nor in a pretext for covetousness, (God is witness!)

  25. nor seeking of men glory, neither from you nor from others, being able to be burdensome, as Christ's apostles.
