The Lord fulfil all thy petitions: now have I known that the Lord hath saved his anointed. He will hear him from his holy heaven: the salvation of his right hand is in powers.
The LORD preserveth the simple: I was brought low, and he helped me.
¶ The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.
A gradual canticle. O Lord, remember David, and all his meekness.
How he swore to the Lord, he vowed a vow to the God of Jacob:
To give subtilty to little ones, to the young man knowledge and understanding.
The wicked man being scourged, the fool shall be wiser: but if thou rebuke a wise man, he will understand discipline.
When a pestilent man is punished, the little one will be wiser: and if he follow the wise, he will receive knowledge.
And I said: Ah, ah, ah, Lord God: behold, I cannot speak, for I am a child.
The light of thy body is thy eye. If thy eye be single, thy whole body shall be lightsome.
At that time Jesus answered and said: I confess to thee, O Father, Lord of Heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them to little ones.
And Jesus, calling unto him a little child, set him in the midst of them.
And said: amen I say to you, unless you be converted, and become as little children, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
And continuing daily with one accord in the temple and breaking bread from house to house, they took their meat with gladness and simplicity of heart:
And the multitude of believers had but one heart and one soul. Neither did any one say that aught of the things which he possessed was his own: but all things were common unto them.
He that exhorteth, in exhorting; he that giveth, with simplicity; he that ruleth, with carefulness; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.
For your obedience is published in every place. I rejoice therefore in you. But I would have you to be wise in good and simple in evil.
Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seem to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.
Brethren, do not become children in sense. But in malice be children: and in sense be perfect.
For our glory is this: the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity of heart and sincerity of God, and not in carnal wisdom, but in the grace of God, we have conversed in this world: and more abundantly towards you.
But I fear lest, as the serpent seduced Eve by his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted and fall from the simplicity that is in Christ.
For our exhortation was not of error, nor of uncleanness, nor in deceit.
But as we were approved by God that the gospel should be committed to us: even so we speak, not as pleasing men but God, who proveth our hearts.
For neither have we used at any time the speech of flattery, as you know: nor taken an occasion of covetousness (God is witness):
Nor sought we glory of men, neither of you, nor of others.
